Hi, I’m Joban.
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor, or a RCC (#22606).
I understand that seeking counselling or seeking the help you may require can be a very intimidating and nerve-tacking process, so I want to firstly commend you on your courage to reach out. Often, I’ve noticed what helps clients feel calmer is sharing a little bit about me and my practice. I graduated with a Masters in Counselling Psychology Degree from Adler University in 2023. I also graduated from Simon Fraser University in 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts Psychology Major and Gerontology Minor degree. I have taken additional training in ADHD, trauma, and dream therapy. My experience as a therapist includes working with diverse populations and client concerns, such as depression, anxiety, trauma, self-esteem, assertiveness, etc.
When it comes to my personal life, I really love being active and creative. I enjoy spending time running, working out, playing hockey, reading, listening to music, and creating music. I also enjoy travelling to new places and meeting different people from different cultures and learning new languages.
In terms of my work in the therapeutic space, I work from a trauma-informed and strengths-based approach. I believe that you have everything you need to heal within you and lead a more authentic and meaningful life, and my work with you will help bring that out. I use a cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) lens. I believe your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours are all interconnected and each one of them impacts and affects the other.
However, I also often use other modalities in my practice based on your individual needs. Some other modalities I use are acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), emotion focused therapy (EFT), and observed experiential integration (OEI) level 1.
Regardless of the modalities I use with you in our work together, I place a huge emphasis on getting to know you and your story. I want to understand where you came from, how you were raised, what your happiest moments looked like, what obstacles and challenges you have been faced with in your life, and what’s brought you into therapy. So, it would be an honour for me to be a part of your story in the here and now as well as moving forward in your healing and growth journey.
